For the Zune launch version, the “anti-iPod”, Surface Work helped to develop a matte, scratch- and fingerprint-proof finish and used the top co-molded case layer to create a fluorescent halo. The second-generation cases use the co-mold top layer to replicate the depth of classic 20-coat lacquer finishes. Purchasers of the players have highlighted the durability and sophistication of the finishes as a key factor in their decision to choose and stay with Zune.
