The designer’s concept for the 3Com modem was a sleek form translucent enough to avoid the need for LED poke-throughs but opaque enough to obscure the busy circuit boards inside. Surface Work helped develop a diffused metallic/pearlescent material that accomplished both goals and achieved the appearance of a high end painted product without secondary operations. Surface Work also recruited and managed graphic design resources for the project. Home Connect exceeded first year sales projections by 300%.
